Is your grout beginning to look a little grimy, and it's time to have it cleaned? This was me not that long ago. I did what most people would do and called around for estimates to have the kitchen grout cleaned. It wasn't long before I learned that the cost was a bit more than I wished to pay.
There had to be a better, more cost-effective way. After searching online for ways to clean the grout on my own, I was found information that said all I needed was baking soda, vinegar, and a toothbrush. It was worth a shot.
Guess what? It really works! Check out the pictures below! Cleaning your grout is not just a great idea for regular deep cleans, but also if you are preparing your home to sell. Keep reading for the recipe and instructions on how to make your grout look like new.
Homemade Grout Cleaner
Supplies needed:
- Baking Soda
- Water
- Vinegar
- Spray Bottle
- Old rags, sponges, or paper towels
Directions:
Step 1: Make a paste with the baking soda and water. As you can see in the picture above, I sprinkled the baking soda directly on the tile. Either works.
Step 2: Spritz vinegar on the baking soda. Some say to mix the vinegar with an equal amount of water (50/50). However, my grout is quite dirty, so I used straight vinegar. You will begin to see the baking soda fizz.
Step 3: After the baking soda has fizzed for about one minute, use a toothbrush to scrub away the dirt. I was surprised at how immediate the dirt began to surface.
Step 4: Wipe away the mess with a wet paper towel, sponge or old rag.
Step 5: Mop the floors to remove the excess residue and add extra shine.
Grout That Sparkles
That's it! For a fraction of the cost, you too can have clean grout without paying an arm and a leg. It is always advisable to clean as much as possible before selling your home. A clean home is more appealing to potential buyers, and you're more likely to get top-dollar.
